Indoor air quality is a growing concern globally, and in Saint Kitts and Nevis, poor air quality in homes, offices, schools, and other buildings poses significant risks to health, productivity, and overall well-being. As part of the nation’s ongoing commitment to building a Sustainable Island State, this dialogue is an important step toward ensuring safe, healthy, and sustainable indoor environments for all.

The National Dialogue will feature expert presentations and panel discussions on critical topics, including:

  • Indoor air quality in government and private buildings
  • Health impacts of poor air quality
  • Challenges for architects and builders
  • Regulatory standards and building codes
  • The role of proper cleaning and maintenance practices

The event will also include interactive breakout sessions where participants can engage in discussions, identify risks, and propose solutions related to issues like mould, ambient air quality, and mitigation measures. Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute ideas and recommendations to guide future policies, particularly as Saint Kitts and Nevis works toward establishing a national indoor air quality policy.

The Chair of the Organising Committee and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Marcus L. Natta, noted the critical importance of this Dialogue, stating: “This event represents a unique opportunity for us to come together as a nation to address the hidden dangers of poor indoor air quality. It affects everyone—students, workers, families, and businesses—and finding solutions is crucial to improving the health and resilience of our communities. Through this Dialogue, we aim to chart a path toward healthier indoor spaces and sustainable living as part of our national development strategy.”

The Dialogue is open to a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, public health professionals, contractors, architects, engineers, academic researchers, property managers, and members of the public. Registration is free, and all interested parties are encouraged to sign up via the online registration link available on the event poster or contact the Cabinet Secretariat at 467-1167 for more information.

Join us as we take proactive steps toward improving indoor air quality and protecting the health and well-being of all residents of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Let’s breathe better, live healthier, and build a sustainable future together!
