BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, [November 6th, 2024: PMO] – The government of St. Kitts and Nevis announced the implementation of a transformative wind energy project at Port Zante, a significant step in its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, underscores the government’s dedication to diversifying energy sources while addressing environmental concerns and fostering economic growth.”This initiative is part of our strategy to diversify our energy sources and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.”
He stressed, “Harnessing wind energy will not only contribute to our sustainability goals but will also create new job opportunities in the renewable energy sector, aligning with our vision for a more resilient economy.”
The wind energy project will involve the installation of state-of-the-art wind turbines capable of generating clean, renewable energy for the Federation. Prime Minister Drew emphasized the importance of transitioning to sustainable energy sources, stating, “Investing in renewable energy is crucial for the long-term resilience of our economy.”
This project is expected to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of energy production in St. Kitts and Nevis, contributing to the global fight against climate change.
In addition to environmental benefits, the wind energy initiative is projected to create numerous job opportunities in both the short and long term, ranging from construction and installation to ongoing maintenance and operation of the wind turbines.
The government is actively seeking partnerships with local and international stakeholders, including renewable energy firms, environmental organizations, and community groups, to ensure the successful implementation of the wind energy project.
