Job Title: Deputy Postmaster General

Role:
The Deputy Postmaster General shall act as Postmaster General during the Postmaster General’s absence or disability. This officer would also be responsible for the effective management of assigned sections and or sub offices under the control of the General Post Office. The Deputy Postmaster general would assist in coordinating office activities and operations for improved efficiency and compliance with departmental goals and policies.
Education and/or Experience:
The Deputy Postmaster General must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Business Administration/ Management, Public Administration, or relevant area)
- At least 3 years of post-qualification work experience in a relevant field
Required Attributes
The Deputy Postmaster General must have:
- Good command of the English language both written and oral
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team
- Adequate knowledge of postal operations and regulations
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Suite
Duties:
- Maintain custody of ALL duplicate keys for the General Post Office, Branch and Sub Post Office(s)
- Ensure that official letter is sent to the Police Commissioner for person(s) authorized to collect office keys
- Ensure that no locks are changed without consent of the Postmaster General or Deputy Postmaster General for doors, cupboard etc.
- Ensure that the office(s) have proper lighting, plumbing etc. (liaison with Public Works Department)
- Ensure that office (s) have adequate furniture and equipment
- Ensure that Postmen/ uniform material is secured.
- Ensure that postal supplies are ordered from the relevant suppliers.
- Ensure that the departmental arrangements are in place for the smooth running of office (Acts as Personnel Officer for human resource matters)
- Staff Training
- Ensure that monthly reports of lateness and absenteeism are submitted
- Ensure that annual statistics forms are prepared for all offices within the federation for International and Local Statistics
- Ensure that the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Continuous Testing is done
- Ensure that supervisors, Branch and Sub Postmistress carries out their functions in their assigned sections efficiently
- Ensure emails are checked daily
- Liaison closely with all supervisors
- Ensure the Branch Post Office in Nevis is kept up to date on all matter relating to the operational procedures of the St. Kitts-Nevis Postal Service
- Action all UPU circulars
- Ensure that all UPU programs are paid (including Contribution). Monitor and update UPU Contribution File periodically
- Make certain of the general sanitation of the offices and surroundings are properly maintained
Salary Scale: K33- K38 ($59,340 – $72,93) Per annum.
