United Nations, NY – 13 December 2024 – A delegation of UN ambassadors from Taiwan’s allies visited Taiwan last week. The four member group led by Ambassador Ilana Seid of Palau, comprised of Ambassador Mutryce Williams of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Ambassador Menissa Rambally of Saint Lucia, Ambassador Tapugao Falefou of Tuvalu. Taiwan’s Director General Tom Chih-Chiang Lee of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York also joined the delegation.

During their six-day visit, the ambassadors gained insights into Taiwan’s political and economic developments and learned about its strengths in digital technology, smart cities, sustainable development, and public health. The ambassadors also engaged Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and other government officials on UN-related issues and policymaking.

They attended receptions hosted by Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu and Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang and visited the International Cooperation and Development Fund, where among the many interventions made, Ambassador Williams’ left an indelible mark on the gathering.

TaiwanICDF said, “Among the many touching moments, one stood out in particular: Dr. Mutryce Williams of Saint Kitts and Nevis expressed her personal gratitude to Taiwan, sharing an anecdote about her personal connection with the country. That connection began in Dr. Williams’ childhood, when her childhood friend Nancy introduced her to the beauty and kindness of Taiwan and its people.” The ambassador’s trip came as Taiwan is countering China’s misinterpretation of UN General Resolution 2758, which only addresses UN representation and not Taiwan’s sovereign status. The allies, including St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew supported Taiwan’s international participation at the 79th UN General Assembly in September.

St. Kitts and Nevis considers itself one of Taiwan’s strongest allies and advocates.
