St Kitts and Nevis to Host Bi-Annual Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Council of Legal Education

Basseterre, St Kitts (January 28, 2025) – The Government of St Kitts and Nevis is proud to announce that the Executive Committee of the Council of Legal Education will convene its bi-annual meeting at the Royal St Kitts Hotel, Frigate Bay, on Friday, January 31, 2025.

This distinguished gathering of regional jurists underscores St Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to supporting the advancement of the legal profession across the Commonwealth Caribbean. The Council of Legal Education, established 54 years ago, continues to play a pivotal role in training competent and ethical legal practitioners, guided by its mission to promote social justice, high ethical standards, and the rule of law within the region.

The Council is comprised of key stakeholders under Article 1(a) of its founding Agreement, including the Attorneys General of member Governments, the Chief Justices of member jurisdictions, representatives of the practicing legal profession, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of the West Indies, and the Principals of the Council’s three renowned law schools:

  • The Hugh Wooding Law School (Trinidad & Tobago)
  • The Norman Manley Law School (Jamaica)
  • The Eugene Dupuch Law School (The Bahamas)

Commenting on this important occasion, the Honourable Attorney General of St Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Garth Wilkin, expressed delight that the nation was selected to host this prestigious event. He remarked:

“It is an honour for St Kitts and Nevis to welcome the Executive Committee of the Council of Legal Education for their bi-annual meeting. The Council’s work is instrumental in shaping the development of legal practitioners who uphold the highest ethical standards and respond to the unique needs of our Caribbean societies. Hosting this meeting here reaffirms our nation’s commitment to fostering excellence in the legal profession and supporting regional integration through law and justice.”

The meeting promises to be a platform for meaningful dialogue and strategic planning, ensuring the continued success of the Council’s mission and the enhancement of the region’s legal education systems.

The Government of St Kitts and Nevis looks forward to welcoming the distinguished members of the Executive Committee and remains committed to contributing to the advancement of the legal profession throughout the Commonwealth Caribbean.
