BASSETERRE, ST KITTS & NEVIS, MARCH 10, 2025 – In a significant move to enhance road safety enforcement, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis has established a dedicated email address, roadsafety@gov.kn, to facilitate the confidential public submission of dash cam footage capturing traffic violations. This initiative follows the enactment of the Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 2025, which empowers residents to play a more active role in enforcing traffic laws.

The Licencing Authority designated roadsafety@gov.kn email provides a secure and structured channel for submitting video evidence of road infractions. To ensure the integrity of submissions, individuals may choose to remain anonymous during court proceedings, with a structured legal framework allowing for the confidential submission of video evidence.

Submissions should include a brief description of the recorded offence, along with the date, time, and location of the incident. Those wishing to remain anonymous should indicate this in their email, ensuring that their contact details and file metadata remain strictly confidential.

The roadsafety@gov.kn submission system is independently managed and operates separately from the Licencing Authority. Administrators handling the submissions are legally bound by the Unauthorized Disclosure of Official Information Act, 2023, making any breach of confidentiality a criminal offence.

As part of the government’s push for safer roads, individuals whose submitted video evidence leads to a conviction may receive a court-awarded reward of up to EC$5,000, which will be paid by the convicted offender, into court.

Commissioner of Police James Sutton, who also heads the Licencing Authority, underscored the role of community collaboration in improving road safety.

“This amendment is a game-changer in our fight against reckless driving. By allowing the public to submit dash cam and other video footage, we are strengthening law enforcement’s ability to hold violators accountable and, ultimately, save lives,” said Commissioner Sutton.

The Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Act, 2025, introduces harsher penalties for dangerous driving. Fines for excessive speeding and reckless driving now range from EC$6,000 to EC$8,000, with repeat offenders facing fines of up to EC$20,000 and potential imprisonment.

The Licensing Authority urges all road users to drive responsibly, comply with traffic laws, and support road safety efforts by utilising the roadsafety@gov.kn submission system to report violations.

Together, We Can Make Our Roads Safer!
