GOVERNMENT OF SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS ANNOUNCES CONTINUATION OF VAT HOLIDAY, PRIORITISING LONG-TERM ECONOMIC BENEFITS FOR ALL

Basseterre, Saint Kitts, March 17, 2025 (SKNIS): The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis wishes to inform the public that there will not be a Discounted VAT Rate Day for Easter this year. This decision has been made in light of the ongoing VAT Holiday, which has already reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate from 17 to 13 percent for a six-month period, from January to June 2025.

The government recognises the popularity of past Discounted VAT Rate Days, such as the one implemented during Easter 2024, which provided immediate relief to consumers and stimulated economic activity. However, after careful consideration, it has been determined that the extended VAT Holiday offers greater and more sustained benefits to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The current VAT Holiday ensures that all citizens and residents can enjoy reduced VAT rates on a wide range of goods and services for an extended period. This approach is designed to provide consistent financial relief to households, support local businesses, and foster long-term economic stability. By spreading the benefits over a longer timeframe, the government aims to create a more equitable and impactful economic environment for everyone.

While the government understands the appeal of one-day VAT discounts, the decision to focus on the six-month VAT Holiday reflects a commitment to prudent fiscal management and sustainable economic growth. The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis remains dedicated to implementing policies that prioritise the welfare of its citizens and residents, and the long-term prosperity of the nation.

Citizens and residents are encouraged to take full advantage of the reduced VAT rates during this six-month period, while continuing to support local businesses, contributing to the nation’s progress.
