Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 03, 2025 (PMO) — In observance of World Health Day 2025, The Ministry of Health, headed by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, launched a landmark two-day national program designed to deliver targeted, high-quality maternal and newborn health services to families across the Federation. The initiative, which falls under this year’s global theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” reflects the government’s strategic focus on nurturing life from its earliest stages and strengthening family health as a pillar of national development.

The program is being implemented in all community health centers throughout St. Kitts and Nevis, bringing compassionate, expert-led care directly to those who need it most. The objective is not only to raise awareness, but to actively empower women and new parents with the tools, knowledge, and services they need to thrive during pregnancy and early childhood.

“On Monday April 7, 2025, all health centers in the Federation will host special antenatal clinics from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., targeting all pregnant females in each community. Pregnant clients will have access to expert care and information on life saving tips to help them navigate pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period,” Prime Minister Drew announced. These enhanced antenatal clinics will provide comprehensive health screenings, prenatal guidance, nutritional counseling, and critical health education—all delivered in a safe, supportive setting.

The outreach effort continues on Tuesday, April 8, with an equally important focus. “On Tuesday April 8, all health centers will host a newborn clinic aimed at giving new parents and infants the best start in life. They will have access to information about breastfeeding, development milestones and value of vaccinations to prevent deadly infections like measles,” Dr. Drew explained.

These clinics will serve as essential touchpoints for parents, offering timely information on newborn nutrition, immunization schedules, early cognitive and motor development, and parental well-being.This two-day initiative forms part of the government’s broader health transformation agenda, and also reinforces the administration’s belief in community-rooted, people-first healthcare delivery.

“Let us come together—as partners, as communities, as one people—to keep investing in maternal and child care. Let us be intentional in our actions, compassionate in our policies, and forward-thinking in our vision,” Prime Minister Drew urged.

This latest initiative, part of a year-long campaign under the World Health Organization’s observance, underscores the Drew Administration’s commitment to ensuring no mother or child is left behind. By extending services directly into the heart of communities, the government is not only building a healthier population—but shaping a future rooted in equity, dignity, and care.
