Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 16, 2025 (PMO) —Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to freedom of speech while drawing a clear line against the misuse of digital platforms for slander and defamation. During his appearance on Freedom FM on April 15, the Prime Minister addressed recent legal action he has taken in response to defamatory statements made about him.

“I encourage free speech, open discussions,” Prime Minister Drew emphasized. “But what does that have to do with you accusing me of corruption with no proof, other than to slander and be salacious?”

He further clarified that his legal action is not an attack on free expression but a defense of his integrity and the nation’s global reputation.

“When something is said about me as the leader of the country that alludes to corruption, and I travel, people do due diligence on me — and these things pop up,” he said. “That can have an impact on the country’s ability to do what it has to do.”

Dr. Drew cautioned against the dangerous spread of misinformation and the weaponization of anonymous platforms. “People think they can just say anything, hide behind a fake page, and not have any consequences. That must stop.”

This stance emphasizes the government’s efforts to uphold the rule of law and maintain the nation’s reputation on the international stage.
