New York, New York, (1 May, 2025)- Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United Nation H.E. Dr. Mutryce A. Williams has been appointed by the President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, H.E. Robert ‘Bob’ Rae, to serve with Ireland’s Ambassador to the United Nations H.E. Fergal Mythen, as co-facilitators of an inclusive intergovernmental process with all Member States, to explore options to revitalize the Commission on the Status of Women.

In a correspondence to the UN body, H.E. Robert ‘Bob’ Rae informed, “Following the recent departure of H.E. Gladys Mokhawa from New York, I have the honour to inform you that I have appointed H.E. Mutryce Williams, Ambassador of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, as the new co-facilitator of the process to explore options to revitalize the CSW, together with H.E. Fergal Mythen. I would like to express my gratitude to Ambassador Mokhawa for her leadership and thank Ambassador Williams for accepting this important responsibility.”

Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis, H.E. Dr. Mutryce Williams shared, “I am pleased to co-facilitate this process with H.E. Fergal Mythen, Permanent Representative of Ireland to the United Nations. The teams at the Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the UN and at the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the UN have already commenced work. We have a very good collaboration, and we are committed to successfully executing this mandate.”

Ambassador Williams further underscored the importance of this assignment stating, “I am particularly delighted that our country has been tasked with this leadership role, which gives us a great opportunity to spearhead the improvement of this important UN body, and to ensure it remains fit for purpose. Gender equality and the advancement of women are key priorities for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, and at the local level, the Government has been undertaking significant transformative actions in this area, and I am heartened, that we now have an opportunity to accelerate action at the international level in this area, in line with the Government’s visions of playing a more leading role internationally.”

Thirty years after the Fourth World Conference of Women in Beijing, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is pleased to play a leading role on the attainment of this important mandate, which seeks to promote the full and effective implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and to promote and protect their human rights.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, the rights and the empowerment of women. It is a function commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) which was established by ECOSOC resolution 11(II) OF June 1946.
