Held in the Large Conference Room at the St. Kitts Department of Agriculture, the meeting brought together farmers, entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders for a comprehensive discussion on the future of the medicinal cannabis industry in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The event served as a platform for the Authority to provide clarity on the recently launched licensing system under the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Act. Representatives from the Authority presented detailed information on the application process, associated fees, and compliance requirements for the various categories of business licenses. These licenses include those for transport, cultivation, processing and extraction, dispensary operations, cannabis lounges, import and export, research and development, and testing facilities.

Additionally, participants engaged in substantive discussion concerning the specific privileges associated with each license type. There was particular interest in the protocols for product sourcing and tracking, as these mechanisms are critical to ensuring regulatory compliance, public health safety, and product integrity. The Authority also provided guidance on proper storage procedures and safety standards, which are essential for maintaining quality assurance across the supply chain.

Stakeholders praised the town hall format for promoting transparency and for providing a structured opportunity to raise questions and receive expert feedback. The session emphasized the government’s commitment to an evidence-based, socially inclusive approach to developing the medicinal cannabis sector, particularly with regard to ensuring that small farmers and community-based enterprises have equitable access to licensing and technical support.

In continuation of its public outreach, the Medicinal Cannabis Authority will host two additional town hall meetings, led by Chairperson of the Medicinal Cannabis Board, Mrs. Jihan Williams Knight. The next session will take place on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, at the Old Road Community Center, followed by another on Thursday, 29th May 2025, at the Lodge Community Center. Both events will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

For additional information, members of the public are invited to visit the Medicinal Cannabis Authority’s office, located at the Richard L. Caines Building on Princes Street in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

The Authority can also be contacted via email at sknmedcannauthority@gov.kn or by telephone at 869-467-1613.
