Prague, Czech Republic (June 4, 2025) — Her Excellency Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin, Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Organization of American States (OAS), participated in the 2025 Global Forum on Higher Education at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic from June 3–4, under the theme “Renewal of the Democratic and Civic Mission.”
Ambassador Henry-Martin delivered powerful opening remarks on behalf of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, underscoring the critical role of higher education in promoting democracy, equity, and civic empowerment across the Americas and the world.
“As a proud member of this inter-American family, Saint Kitts and Nevis stands as a testament to the transformative power of higher education, steeped in the values of democracy, equity, and civic empowerment,” stated Ambassador Henry-Martin.
Ambassador Henry-Martin reflected on the unique history of Saint Kitts and Nevis, describing it as a nation that has “embraced the promise of democracy and the potential of education as foundational pillars of progress.” Her remarks emphasized the inextricable link between education and democratic development, asserting that through these pillars, citizens gain dignity, opportunity, and full participation in global society.

Ambassador Henry-Martin also highlighted the role of the OAS in translating intent into action by promoting citizen engagement and democratic resilience through education. Quoting the Inter-American Democratic Charter, she reaffirmed the OAS’s commitment to youth-focused democratic education and inclusive development.
“Let us be unequivocal: nothing must obstruct the promise of higher education,” Ambassador declared. “It must remain a vehicle for social mobility, a repository of critical thought, and a beacon for human dignity.”
Addressing global challenges such as climate change, democratic backsliding, and inequality, Ambassador Henry-Martin called for renewed collaboration across states, civil society, and academia to ensure that education systems remain inclusive, resilient, and transformative.

“We must commit to ensuring that higher education nurtures civic engagement, democratic consciousness, and global citizenship,” she urged. “This forum is part of our hemispheric and global response—a united effort to rededicate higher education to the service of democracy, civic virtue, and human development.”
Ambassador Henry-Martin expressed appreciation to the Netter Center for Community Partnerships, the International Consortium for Higher Education, Civic Responsibility and Democracy, the Council of Europe, and the International Association of Universities for organizing the forum and continuing to strengthen the democratic and civic mission of higher education.
Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin’s participation further reaffirmed Saint Kitts and Nevis’ role as a proactive and principled voice in international diplomacy and educational innovation, firmly positioning the twin-island Federation as a respected contributor on the global stage.
