Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), (July 25, 2025) — His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to Taiwan, met with Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi to discuss areas for cooperation and collaboration.
Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, head of the Pingtung County government, warmly welcomed Ambassador Francis on his first official visit on Wednesday July 23, 2025, to discuss matters of education, tourism and sustainable agriculture.
Pingtung County, located in southern Taiwan, is described as Taiwan’s most diverse city in the aspects of geology, ecology, and ethnicity. The main industries are agriculture and tourism.
Ambassador Francis pinpointed the striking similarities in scenery and industry between Nevis and Pingtung County.
“Pingtung County reminds me of the untouched natural beauty and abundant natural resources of our sister island Nevis,” Ambassador Francis said as he reflected on his many visits to Pingtung during his years as a university student in Taiwan.
Ambassador Francis envisions connecting Pingtung County and Charlestown, Nevis for educational, agricultural and cultural exchange.
Saint Kitts and Nevis nationals currently studying in Pingtung County are mainly focused on fields in agriculture.
Magistrate Chou eagerly invited the Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis and nationals residing in Pingtung to join upcoming tourist events such as the Pingtung Christmas and Lantern Festivals.
His Excellency Donya L. Francis and Magistrate Chou Chun-mi exchanged tokens in honor of their first meeting aimed at fostering cooperation and exchange.
