Basseterre, Saint Kitts, August 15, 2025 (SKNIS): Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, met today with the leadership of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to receive an update on the approaching weather system, formerly Tropical Storm Erin, which strengthened into  the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season on Friday, August 15.

During the briefing, NEMA officials provided the Prime Minister with the latest forecasts, preparedness measures, and coordination efforts among emergency response agencies. While there are currently no watches or warnings in effect for the Federation, the government is closely monitoring the storm’s progress and stands ready to take action should conditions change.

Prime Minister Drew urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant, stay informed through official channels, and take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property.

“Preparedness is key. We encourage everyone to pay close attention to reliable updates from NEMA, secure your homes and businesses where necessary, and ensure you have essential supplies on hand,” Dr. Drew stated.

The public is reminded that hurricane conditions can change rapidly, and early preparation is the best defence. For updates and safety information, follow NEMA on official social media pages and local media outlets.
