New York, USA, September 23, 2025 (PMO) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, today, September 23, engaged in a significant bilateral meeting with Her Excellency Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The discussions centered on forging stronger partnerships between St. Kitts and Nevis and the OIF, with Prime Minister Drew reaffirming the Federation’s keen interest in becoming a member of the global Francophonie community. He noted that St. Kitts and Nevis’ rich francophone history, as the first French colony in the Caribbean, provides a unique cultural and linguistic foundation that aligns naturally with the values and mission of La Francophonie.

The meeting was warm and cordial, with both Prime Minister Drew and Secretary-General Mushikiwabo exchanging perspectives on how cultural ties can serve as a platform for deeper cooperation.
Secretary-General Mushikiwabo welcomed the interest of St. Kitts and Nevis, expressing her appreciation for the Federation’s historical and cultural ties to the francophone community.

She further underscored that the OIF remains committed to expanding partnerships across the Caribbean and welcomed the potential contributions of St. Kitts and Nevis to the organisation’s mission.
Prime Minister Drew was accompanied at the meeting by Her Excellency Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations.
