Basseterre, Saint Kitts, November 05, 2025 (SKNIS) – Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, welcomed the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated St. Peter’s Main Road and F.T. Williams Highway East as a transformative EC $31 million infrastructure project that marks a new era of safety, accessibility, and development for the people of St. Peter’s and surrounding communities.
The official road opening ceremony, held today, November 05, at the roundabout near the St. Peter’s Anglican Church was attended by members of Cabinet, senior government officials, community members, engineers, and contractors, all celebrating what has been hailed as one of the most significant road infrastructure projects in the area’s history.

In delivering remarks, Prime Minister Drew, who also serves as the Parliamentary Representative for St. Peter’s, described the moment as deeply personal, recalling his childhood in the area and the many challenges residents once faced due to poor road conditions.
“I grew up here in this community. I went to the Deane Glasford Primary School, and because of how the roads were in this area, we would have had multiple accidents over the years, including the death of a little boy, and it is because when the children came out of school, they had to walk directly into the road… and that, I always said, should not be,” Prime Minister Drew asserted.

The prime minister recounted years of neglect under previous administration, noting that St. Peter’s had long been excluded from major infrastructure works. He said his advocacy for the inclusion of St. Peter’s in the national road network stemmed from a belief that the people deserved equal investment and recognition.
Dr. Drew emphasised that the completion of this project not only corrects a long-standing omission but also lays the foundation for the creation of a “modern community” in St. Peter’s—one that reflects pride, progress, and shared national growth.
“This road is helping us to build a modern community, a modern community of St. Peter’s that will be, of course, well-designated as the great state of St. Peter’s,” Prime Minister Drew said. “The development of this area means the development of the whole of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and so that is why this will contribute significantly to our overall development.”

The honourable prime minister noted that the area’s transformation represents far more than physical infrastructure — it symbolises dignity and equal opportunity for all citizens. “Never again will this community be considered a community that is not at the forefront of national development. Never again will anybody look down on this community as they used to… Never again will our children believe that they are not from a great area.”
The Rehabilitation of the St. Peter’s Main Road and F.T. Williams Highway East Project, executed by Rock & Dirt Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, included full road reconstruction, base stabilisation, asphalt resurfacing, and safety enhancements such as sidewalks, curbs, and improved drainage.
The project was completed within the approved EC $31.3 million budget and represents another milestone in the government’s commitment to building resilient, modern, and connected communities across the Federation.
