Taipei, Taiwan, November 14th, 2025 (PMO) – Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew today, November 14th, held a productive and forward-looking meeting with President H.E. Dr. Lai Ching-te of the Republic of China (Taiwan), reaffirming the more than four decades of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. The engagement formed part of Prime Minister Drew’s official visit to Taiwan, where both leaders delivered remarks and then proceeded into a private discussion focused on strengthening existing partnerships and expanding new areas of collaboration.

In their meeting, Prime Minister Drew and President Lai reflected on the historic and unwavering ties between St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan, emphasizing shared values of democracy, mutual respect, and people-centered development. Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to advancing projects in health, education, technology, climate resilience, and municipal cooperation.

Prime Minister Drew highlighted Taiwan’s transformational impact on the lives of Kittitian and Nevisian students studying across Taiwan’s leading universities, particularly in Taipei and Tainan. “Taiwan continues to invest in our people in profound ways. The scholarships and training opportunities given to our young citizens are shaping the future of our nation,” he said, noting that St. Kitts and Nevis is proud to adopt Taiwan’s bilingual 2030 goal as part of its own national development agenda.

The leaders also reviewed ongoing collaborative projects, including advancements in healthcare. Prime Minister Drew shared his impressions following his tour of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, describing Taiwan’s medical expertise as “second to none.” He reiterated St. Kitts and Nevis’ intention to deepen cooperation in specialist training, hospital development, and telemedicine as part of its broader healthcare modernization efforts.

During the private dialogue, President Lai and Prime Minister Drew exchanged views on major geopolitical issues affecting the region and the wider international community. Prime Minister Drew reaffirmed his government’s unwavering support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, including the World Health Organization. He emphasized that Taiwan’s contributions, especially in technology, science, and healthcare, are indispensable to the global community, noting “Taiwan’s involvement is not the question, it is the answer.”

Both Prime Minister Drew and President Ching-te further explored opportunities for expanding technical exchange, trade, renewable energy collaboration, and capacity-building initiatives.

This discussion builds on the momentum of two sister-city agreements signed this week by the St. Kitts and Nevis Embassy, first with Taipei City and later today with Tainan City, the hometown of President Lai. These agreements are expected to unlock new avenues for cultural, educational, and developmental cooperation.

The official visit continues with additional engagements and site visits aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
