Basseterre, Saint Kitts, November 14, 2025 (SKNIS) — Saint Kitts and Nevis has reaffirmed its commitment to regional solidarity and disaster cooperation by deploying skilled technical personnel and pledging financial support to assist Jamaica in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Melissa.

Earlier this week, Saint Kitts and Nevis dispatched a team of seven highly trained electricity technicians to join ongoing restoration efforts in Jamaica. The team comprises four specialists from the St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. (SKELEC) and three from the Nevis Electricity Company Ltd. (NEVLEC). Their deployment forms part of a coordinated regional response facilitated by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) through the Regional Response Mechanism (RRM).

The technicians from Saint Kitts and Nevis have joined other regional teams working urgently to restore critical infrastructure. Their presence complements the broader deployment of personnel across the Caribbean, including 75 linesmen and engineers mobilised through the Caribbean Electric Utilities Services Corporation (CARILEC), and additional CARICOM Operational Support Team (COST) members providing strategic assistance to Jamaica’s National Emergency Operations Centre.

In addition to technical manpower, Saint Kitts and Nevis has pledged US$100,000 to support the Government and people of Jamaica in their recovery and rebuilding efforts. This financial contribution underscores the Federation’s unwavering commitment to collective resilience and regional partnership in times of crisis.

Saint Kitts and Nevis also commended the coordinated efforts of CDEMA, regional governments, and international partners—whose combined support includes over 170 metric tonnes of relief supplies from agencies such as the Barbados Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC), PAHO, ShelterBox, and UNICEF.

The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis remains committed to supporting Jamaica throughout its recovery and applauds all regional responders who continue to demonstrate the spirit of Caribbean cooperation.
