Basseterre, Saint Kitts, November 26, 2025 (SKNIS) – Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, has expressed his satisfaction with the significant progress being made under the government’s housing programme and the broader construction boom taking place across the Federation.

Speaking during the November 25 edition of his Roundtable programme, Prime Minister Drew highlighted that new homes are now under construction in several communities including Stapleton, Gillard’s Meadow, Ottley’s Village, in Newtown, and in Harry Phipps (Halfway Tree), with additional projects about to commence in Racecourse, Newton Ground and Sandy Point.

“All within just four weeks, every constituency in Saint Kitts and Nevis will have houses being built,” the prime minister stated. “This is a clear sign of progress and delivery for our people.”

The prime minister explained that the homes are being constructed to the highest standards of safety and durability — ensuring that they can withstand the growing effects of climate change.

“These houses are being built with wall roofs, with the opportunity to extend up top,” he said. “But the reason why we are reinforcing them with eight-inch blocks, steel and concrete wall roof is so that they can sustain category five hurricanes.”

Dr. Drew added that the pace of construction has been so strong that local concrete producers have indicated challenges keeping up with demand, underscoring the scale of activity currently taking place.

“We have a lot of houses being built at this time, to the point where, I am now being told by the companies in Saint Kitts and Nevis that produce concrete, that they will not be able to keep up, but we cannot slow down, because our people need these homes.”

In addition to the national housing initiative, Prime Minister Drew highlighted several major infrastructure and development projects that are advancing across the Federation, including the new Basseterre High School, the Symbol of Love Museum and Monuments at Fort Thomas, and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel development.

Prime Minister Drew commended the pace of national development, emphasising that these projects reflect his Government’s continued commitment to improving the lives of citizens, creating jobs, and strengthening resilience across Saint Kitts and Nevis.
