Basseterre, Saint Kitts, February 13, 2026 (PMO) – Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew has updated that the Federation’s new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) facility at the Joseph N. France General Hospital is nearing full completion, marking a major milestone in the Government’s ongoing Health Transformation Agenda.

Providing an update during his Opening Statements in the National Assembly on February 12th, the Prime Minister confirmed that the highly specialized project is in its final phase. “I can say we are 90% complete,” Dr. Drew stated, adding “And I think by the 19th of this month, it would be 98% complete and ready to receive the MRI.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that constructing the MRI facility required precise engineering and strict adherence to international standards, given the highly technical nature of the equipment.

“The building is a specialized building. Nobody in Saint Kitts and Nevis has ever built a building to these specifications.

The project has required continuous consultation with international experts to ensure compliance with global safety and performance standards, underscoring the Government’s commitment to delivering world-class healthcare infrastructure.

Importantly, the Prime Minister noted that the new MRI system will expand access and inclusivity in diagnostic care.

Once fully operational, the MRI facility will significantly reduce the need for costly overseas referrals, shorten diagnostic waiting times, and improve early detection of serious conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, and musculoskeletal injuries.

The Prime Minister described the near completion of the MRI facility as a transformative step forward for the Federation’s healthcare system, reinforcing Government’s broader investments in infrastructure upgrades, digital health records, expanded staffing, and advanced medical technology.

With completion imminent, Saint Kitts and Nevis moves closer to a new era of modern, accessible, and equitable diagnostic services,  delivered right here at home.
