NEW YORK, NY, (August 6, 2026) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E. Dr. Mutryce A. Williams, has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Gavel Award by the Office of the President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in recognition of her exceptional leadership and distinguished service as Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly. Recognition was bestowed during a recent luncheon hosted by H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, to honour the members of the General Committee for their distinguished service throughout the Session.
During the event, Ambassador Williams received the Golden Gavel Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership, having chaired more plenary meetings than any other Vice President during the 80th Session of the General Assembly. This remarkable achievement reflected the confidence placed in her by the President of the General Assembly and the trust reposed in her by the wider United Nations membership to preside over some of the Assembly’s most significant deliberations.
As one of the Vice Presidents of the General Assembly and a member of the General Committee, the body responsible for advising the President on the organization and conduct of the Assembly’s work; Ambassador Williams was entrusted with one of the United Nations’ most visible and demanding leadership responsibilities. Throughout the session, she presided over numerous plenary meetings addressing issues of global consequence, including international peace and security, sustainable development, climate action, financing for development, humanitarian affairs, and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Her leadership was distinguished by impartiality, sound judgment, mastery of the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, and an exceptional ability to guide Member States toward constructive dialogue and consensus.
