New York, NY, (August 10, 2026) – The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis reaffirmed its commitment to human rights education, youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and multilateral cooperation as a co-sponsor of the 20th International Human Rights Summit, held July 30–August 1, 2026, at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The milestone Summit, hosted by United for Human Rights and Youth for Human Rights International, in collaboration with partner organizations and sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Timor-Leste to the United Nations, convened youth leaders, government representatives, diplomats, educators, human rights advocates, and civil society representatives from more than 70 countries. Celebrating its 25-year legacy under the theme “Education for Peace – A 25-Year Legacy,” the Summit served as a significant international platform for advancing human rights education, youth leadership, and peacebuilding.
Saint Kitts and Nevis highlighted the transformative role of young people as leaders and agents of change, encouraging youth to promote inclusion, challenge injustice, and contribute to peaceful communities. Young people from the Saint Kitts and Nevis diaspora also participated, adding their voices to the global dialogue on human rights and youth leadership.
The Federation emphasized that small states can make meaningful contributions to global progress through principled leadership, partnerships, and a strong commitment to multilateral cooperation.
Her Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, served as a keynote speaker, highlighting education as a powerful instrument for peace and emphasizing the importance of justice, respect, understanding, and human dignity.
Through its co-sponsorship and active participation in this landmark international forum, Saint Kitts and Nevis reaffirmed its commitment to human dignity, youth leadership, and a culture of peace, while demonstrating the meaningful contribution that small states can make to the global human rights agenda.
The Permanent Mission extends its appreciation to Mrs. Lecia Phipps, diplomat at the Permanent Mission and Mission Lead on the Summit, for her coordination and on-site support, including assisting the Summit organizers and facilitating the Federation’s participation.
