The St. Kitts and Nevis Postal Services is implementing a five-year strategic plan that aims to transform the Federation’s postal services into a business oriented organization that serves the public efficiently.

This was revealed by the Postmaster General, Dario Gill, during Wednesday’s (August 31) edition of ‘Working for You.’ In order to fully understand what the plan entails, the Postmaster General first outlined the mission statement of the General Post Office (GPO).

“The postal service is committed to the provision of consistently high quality of affordable postal products and services to satisfy the varying requirements of our valued customers in an efficient and professional manner,” he said.

Embodied within the Strategic Plan, which runs from 2016-2020, are the employees core values and beliefs, which speaks to a passion for understanding and satisfying customer needs; working together for the maintenance of organizational integrity; personal commitment to the implementation of agreed plans and policies; and accountability for all actions,  which affect the organization positively or negatively.

Mr. Gill explained that there are a number of objectives that the plan speaks to. These include: to improve the quality and variety of postal services; to provide services that reflect customer needs; to improve financial management and control systems; to improve building and other postal infrastructures; to provide staff and customers with better operating environment; and to create a management structure that is capable of meeting the demands of the modern business oriented organization.

Also, a part of the plan is the United States Mailbox service, formally known as the General Post Office Package and Cargo Services (GPO PAC). This service gives individuals an opportunity to have their own mailing address in the United States (U.S.).  The U.S.  address will allow for persons to quickly and securely receive all of their online purchases done in St. Kitts and Nevis delivered to their U.S mailing address.

“The U.S. Mailbox was launched last year, October 09, and coincided with World Post Day,” said the Postmaster General. “We are trying to reinvent ourselves when it comes to the Post Office and you would realize that now the trend with everyone is ordering online. Now you can set up a U.S. Mailbox, have an account and order on Amazon or eBay and then it is freight forwarded to St. Kitts and Nevis, which is very convenient, so we decided to get into that area based on the popularity and high demand among the public.”

He noted that although the U.S Mailbox service is relatively new, the Post Office is doing exceptionally well with the new service and is encouraging people to utilize it as much as possible.
