(EMU) – St. Kitts, November 9, 2016 Professionals in various fields participated in the Literacy Week of the Dr. William Connor Primary School from November 7-11 by going into classrooms to read stories to students.

The activity seemed to spur excitement in children as various story tellers came alive with dramatic facial expressions and vocal tones that brought the stories to life.

Literacy Week is becoming an increasingly popular activity as schools in St. Kitts and Nevis seek to come up with creative ways to get children involved in reading in an effort to improve their overall learning experience.

Activities for the week were planned with a view to stimulating children to embrace the reading experience. These included a special assembly involving Education officials; Tag Day; Literacy Day (Adults came in to read stories); Open Day and the Literacy parade.

The open day involved a walk to learn and explore the wonders of “Madagascar”; A “Madagascar” Treasure Hunt as well as other activities related to reading; in in keeping with the theme “Reading Through Madagascar”.

Each teacher was given one aspect of the theme which they displayed on manila paper along with a brief write up about that particular image.
