Dr. Harris was returned as National Party Leader. The Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett was elected the new National Deputy Leader.

Other appointments include Warren Thompson as National Chairman; Craig Tuckett, who was returned as National Deputy Chairman; Myrtilla Williams as the new National Secretary; Christophe Greaux as Deputy Secretary; Victor Earle as Treasurer; Claudette Thompson as Deputy Treasurer and Alexis Nisbett as the National Party Organiser.

Sonia Henry and Tishanna Norford will serve as the Representatives of the Women’s Arm of the Party, while Manasses Huggins and Damien Weekes will serve as the Representatives of the Youth Arm.

Donald Caines and Heston Hamm were elected to serve as National Party Trustees.

Speaking on Monday, March 27, on Sugar City FM’s “The People’s Voice” radio programme, Dr. Harris, who is also the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, had nothing but praise for the team of persons chosen to lead the party, saying, “I think we have an unbeatable team and a committed team of people ready to serve. Importantly, it is about the people’s business and this team of persons and this team is very, very committed to serve the people of St. Kitts and Nevis professionally, with courtesy, with respect and to serve them as it were in their communities.”

The PLP leader singled out his new deputy, the Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett, for her selfless and dedicated work within her constituency.

He added, “She speaks to many issues: the issue of the professional woman; the issue of the family; the issue of the growth and development of young people and for us to be able to attract her and to bring her enthusiasm, her love, her organizational capability that has been well exhibited nationally through all the major national events over which she has become involved, including those in West Basseterre – the Haynes Smith Talented Teen Pageant etc, – her involvement with the National Youth Parliament etc, etc.”

Dr. Harris also made reference to changes made to the party’s constitution, which he said would ensure the longevity and success of the People’s Labour Party.

“What we are doing now, we have established a framework for good governance in the party; we have established a framework for legitimizing the work of the executive and we have put strong enduring structures in place in the party and we have ensured that we now have a constitution that is more ready to assist in the service of the party to the country of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The PLP’s Political Leader also used his radio appearance to extend gratitude to the founding members of the party who are no longer associated with the PLP and stressed that those members would be welcomed back “as members of good standing” as long as “they pay their dues and their conduct and behavior accord with the party’s expectations.”
