The meeting with Prime Minister Harris came on the heels of the German Ambassador’s meeting with Governor General, His Excellency Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton GCMG, CVO, QC, JP, where he presented his Letters of Credence.

The cordial discussions covered a number of matters of grave importance to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, including the listing of small member states, like St. Kitts and Nevis, by the European Union (EU) as non-cooperative tax jurisdictions; the departure of correspondent banking services in the Caribbean region, as well as ability to access concessionary funding from international financial institutions.

Also present during the meeting was St. Kitts and Nevis’ Honorary Consul to Germany, Mrs. Denise Parris-Mertins.

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and Federal Republic of Germany have enjoyed long-standing friendly relationship. As a result of this strong relationship, St. Kitts and Nevis has benefited in a number of areas including training opportunities for residents, as well as the signing of an agreement to regulate the exchange of data in tax-related procedures, with a view of achieving better taxation.

The meeting between Prime Minister Harris and His Excellency Holger Michael was held after the ceremony to officially launch the National Archives’ new website, www.historicstkitts.kn, which was also made possible through the kind contribution from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
