TROPICAL STORM ISAAC ALERT STATEMENT
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES
8:00 AM ECT TUE, SEP 11, 2018
THIS IS FOR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
TROPICAL STORM ISAAC REMAINS A STRONG TROPICAL STORM AS IT GETS CLOSER TO THE LESSER ANTILLES.

AT 5 AM ECT OR 0900Z THE CENTRE OF TROPICAL STORM ISAAC WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 14.6 NORTH, LONGITUDE 48.1 WEST OR ABOUT 805 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS (APPROXIMATELY 985 MILES ESE OF ST. KITTS & NEVIS) AND 959 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS.

TROPICAL STORM ISAAC IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST AT 14 MILES PER HOUR. THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. LITTLE CHANGE IN INTENSITY IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS BUT ISAAC IS FORECAST TO BE AT OR NEAR HURRICANE STRENGTH AS IT APPROACHES THE LESSER ANTILLES.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND UP TO 45 MILES FROM THE CENTRE. THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 997 MB OR 29.44 INCHES.

BASED ON THE LATEST OBSERVATION AND ANALYSES, THE CENTRE OF THE SYSTEM IS PROJECTED TO PASS SOUTH OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND WILL BE NEAREST THE ISLANDS ON THURSDAY. AT MOST, TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS.

MARINE CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE STARTING WEDNESDAY; HENCE THE REQUISITE WARNINGS WILL BE ISSUED. POSSIBLE RAINFALL TOTAL FROM THE SYSTEM COULD BE UP TO 50 MM OR 2 INCHES ALL RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO MONITOR THE MOVEMENT OF ISAAC CLOSELY AND BE
PREPARED TO ACT.

REPEATING THE 5 AM ECT POSITION, 14.6 N, 48.1 W. MOVEMENT TOWARD THE WEST NEAR 14 MPH. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MPH. THE MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 997MB. THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE AT MIDDAY

WATCHES AND WARNINGS

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Interests in the Lesser Antilles should monitor the
progress of Isaac.

The St. Kitts Met Services is closely monitoring Tropical
Storm Isaac which is expected to strengthen further
before weakening by mid week as it continues to move
towards the island chain. Residents are reminded that we
are in the peak of the hurricane season and are
encouraged to ensure that their disaster plan is ready.
We will continue to provide daily updates on Hurricane
Isaac which should be in the vicinity of the island chain
by mid-week.
