Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 14, 2018 (SKNIS): Hundreds of nationals are expected at the St. George’s Anglican Church this Sunday (September 16) to give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis over the past 35 years.

The occasion is the Annual Independence State Service which brings together persons from all walks of life to commemorate the twin-island Federation becoming a sovereign state on September 19, 1983. The interdenominational service is widely regarded by many in society as a special event as it provides an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the past and look forward to the promise of tomorrow.

“The Order of Worship in Celebration of and with Thanksgiving for the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis – 35th Anniversary of Independence” notes that there will be presentations by leaders from various churches in St. Kitts and in Nevis. The sermon will be delivered by Bishop Charles A Seaton, President and General Superintendent of the Methodist Church of the Caribbean and the Americas, Leeward Islands District Conference.

Scripture readings will be done by the Honourable Prime Minister and the Right Honourable Leader of the Opposition. Governor General, His Excellency Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton, Members of Parliament, senior government officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, other dignitaries, officials from first response agencies, and members of the general public are expected to attend the service, which begins at 5 p.m.

The Order of Service was prepared by the St. Kitts and Nevis Christian Councils and Evangelical Associations in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs.

Celebrations for Independence are being held under the theme Love, Service, Patriotism and Pride: Independence 35.
