“I feel so great because my Honourable Shawn Richards fixed my roof,” said Ophelia, who hails from Sandy Point. “I would like to say thanks to the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris. Thanks very much. When rain came my roof used to leak plenty and I want to thank God for… the Unity Government.”

Words of gratitude were also shared from fellow “sandy pointers” Margaret and Coretta Liburd.

“I want to say thanks to the government for fixing my roof,” said Margaret. “Big up my representative, Shawn.”

“I want to say thanks to the government for doing the roof for me,” said Coretta. “[It is] a work well done. Continue doing the good work. May the Lord bless you all.”

Pastor Henry Williams, whose house was damaged through the close passage of category five hurricanes Irma and Maria, shared that he now has a study roof to carry him through this hurricane season.

“It was September, October, November, December, all the way down to mid-July when the Lord opened a way through the instrumentality of Mr. DeSuza, the government, and all concerned that came to my rescue. …I want to thank from the top to the bottom; Mr. Prime Minister I want to thank you.

…We pray for you morning, noon and night and your Cabinet, Mr. DeSuza. I want to thank even the folks that work in this area, Mr. Roy Rogers and Tasha, and all of them who came to our rescue. “We voiced our concerns and as a result we were helped. I want to thank the government directly for this initiative; without them, this could not have happened,” he said.

Mobre Phillip of Verchild’s Village was desperately in need of help after his house was badly damaged. He also thanked the government for helping him through its roof repair project.

“I want to thank everybody, including Lindsay Grant, my representative. Thank you very much for all you have done for me and words cannot express how happy I am, so I’m ‘bigging up’ the government for helping me,” he said.

The project began in late April of this year. It has seen an average of forty roofs being repaired each week. Over 400 persons have gained employment since the project started.

The Government is providing the roofing materials and financing the labour costs to those affected through the Office of the Prime Minister with support and guidance from the Ministries of Social Development and Sustainable Development.
