Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 15, 2018 (SKNIS): As St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) from November 12-18, 2018 under four distinct themes: recognizing women; youth; inclusion in entrepreneurship, and connecting eco/support systems around the world, Minister with responsibility for International Trade, the Honourable Lindsay Grant, said that the Federation will continue to work with the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) to enhance the environment.

“During GEW, we will partner with the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) to highlight our own voices here in St. Kitts and Nevis who are making great strides to ensure that entrepreneurs are supported, celebrated and facilitated,” said Minister Grant.

Minister Grant stated that, “GEW is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators,” he added.

According to https://genglobal.org, the Global Entrepreneurship Network operates a platform of projects and programs in 170 countries aimed at making it easier for anyone, anywhere, to start and scale a business. By fostering deeper cross border collaboration and initiatives between entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policymakers and entrepreneurial support organizations, GEN works to create more jobs, educate individuals, accelerate innovation and strengthen economic growth.

The website further states that GEN’s extensive footprint of ensures members have world-wide access to the most relevant knowledge, networks, communities and programs relative to size of economy, maturity of ecosystem, language, culture, geography and more.

Dr. Marcia Brandon is the CEO of Caribbean Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods (COESL), which is the lead agency for GEN as it relates to the Caribbean region.  Dr. Brandon ensures that the GEW is executed with other local partners and lends her expertise and marketing influence to ensure that the week is a productive one.
