Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 14, 2018 (SKNIS): The tourism industry in St. Kitts and Nevis is moving with “leaps and bounds”, says Minister of Tourism, Honourable Lindsay Grant, during a sitting of Parliament on December 14.

During his address, Minister Grant said that 2018 has been a landmark year for the Federation, noting that the tourism industry has seen success after success since 2015.

“We had the opening of the Park Hyatt, the attainment of St. Kitts being a marque port; we welcomed our 1 millionth passenger in July 2018; we have expanded our tourism education programme and our strategy of imparting that in terms of our human capacity and capital is well on our way,” said Minister Grant. “Our policies and our programmes all demonstrate this.”

2019 is shaping up to be another landmark year as in addition to the successes of 2018, a number of capital projects will continue to enhance the tourism product.

According to Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, $5.9 million has been allotted for capital expenditure.

“Capital projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Tourism include: the Black Rocks Enhancement Project, the Coastal Erosion Mitigation Project, the South Friars Bay Beach Enhancement Project, the Tourism Development Project, and the Support for ECO Park Project. In addition to these projects, work on the second phase of the De Strip Development Project will begin,” said the prime minister.
