CXC® Awards Regional Top Performers in CAPE®

Statement on Caribbean Examinations Council® Examinations: Queries and Reviews

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Students from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have emerged as the most outstanding candidates in the Caribbean Examinations Council® (CXC®) Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination® (CAPE®) July/August 2020 sitting. The list of Regional Top Awardees was announced at the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the School Examinations Committee (SUBSEC) held on Thursday, 22 April 2021.

In 2020, Zane Ramotar of Queen’s College in Guyana, secured the annual Dennis Irvine Award, for the top overall student at the CAPE® level. Zane achieved Grade I in Applied Mathematics Unit 1, Biology Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry Units 1 and 2, Communication Studies, Environmental Science Units 1 and 2, Integrated Mathematics, Physics Units 1 and 2 and Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2. He also achieved Grade II in Applied Mathematics Unit 2.

In addition to copping the top overall award, Zane will also receive the top award for Natural Sciences for his performance in Applied Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Integrated Mathematics, Physics and Pure Mathematics.

The other CAPE® top awards were secured by students from Trinidad and Tobago. The award for

Most Outstanding Performance in Mathematics, which is sponsored by RM Results, was won by

Abdur-Rahman Mohammed of Naparima College. He achieved Grade I in all his subjects – Applied Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Physics Units 1 and 2, Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies. 

Xavier Joseph of Presentation College, Chaguanas in Trinidad and Tobago, won the award for Most

Outstanding Performance in Environmental Science. He achieved Grade I in Environmental Science Units 1 and 2, Biology Units 1 and 2, Geography Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry Units 1 and 2, Communication Studies and Pure Mathematics Units 1 and 2.

Rhianna Ragoonanan of Lakshmi Girls’ Hindu College in Trinidad and Tobago, excelled in the field of

Humanities and will receive the Hodder Education-sponsored award for Most Outstanding

Performance. Rhianna achieved Grade I in History Units 1 and 2, Literatures in English Unit 2, Sociology Units 1 and 2, Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies. She also achieved Grade II in Literatures in English Unit I.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) award for Most Outstanding

Performance in Business Studies was copped by Anjali Maharaj of Naparima Girls’ High School in

Trinidad and Tobago. She achieved Grade I in a variety of business subjects, inclusive of Accounting Units 1 and 2, Entrepreneurship Units 1 and 2 and Management of Business Units 1 and 2. She also achieved Grade I in Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies. 

Kimberly Seerattan of Lakshmi Girls’ Hindu College in Trinidad and Tobago earned the award for Most Outstanding Performance for Language Studies with her mastery of modern languages. She achieved Grade I in French Units 1 and 2, Literatures in English Units 1 and 2, Spanish Units 1 and 2 Caribbean Studies and Communication Studies.

These outstanding students will receive their awards during a virtual Regional Top Awards Ceremony, hosted by Antigua and Barbuda, on Thursday, 3 June 2021. Queen’s College of Guyana, will receive the awards for both CSEC® and CAPE® School of the Year 2020.
