Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 8, 2021 (SKNIS): Attorney General within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr, says persons can legally work remotely from home.

During the June 7, 2021, edition of the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) COVID-19 Briefing, Attorney General Byron, in relation to a question asked as to whether government workers can work remotely from home to reduce the number of persons in government offices, said yes they can.

“The law that governs the COVID-19 response, the COVID-19 (Prevention and Control) Act 2020 does provide for people to work remotely from home,” he said.

“The legislation is there and it does require employers to arrange with the employees once the work permits to do so,” he said. “There is no prohibition against that; it is not mandated at this stage but the law does provide that that can happen,” said the Attorney General.

The COVID-19 (Prevention and Control) Bill 2020 was passed successfully in Parliament on November 17, 2020, as a means to provide for public health and other interventions to prevent, control, and suppress the transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
