Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 09, 2021 (SKNIS): All departments at the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), no matter their location, will soon be able to communicate electronically with each other thereby eliminating physical interaction following the implementation of a brand new Port Management System.

This was according to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (Ag.) at SCASPA, Tuffida Stewart while appearing on the September 08 edition of ‘Working for You’.

“In terms of building resilience and being in a position to continue in the current environment, we have taken a decision to implement a brand new Port Management System. That system has various modules that involve every department within SCASPA. So whereas we have five separate locations we will be able to communicate electronically without having persons physically go to different departments for approvals,” said Ms. Stewart. “So we do have a Port Management System that is soon to be implemented that would allow for the electronic communication in SCASPA and also recording and reporting.”

The Acting CEO said that communication will also be enhanced for a variety of organizations that are connected to SCASPA.

“In addition to that and attached to that Port Management System, we have a Port Community System and that system is essentially a single-window that would allow our partners within the industry to communicate with SCASPA and to grant approval to the vessel,” she said. “So in other words, we have a system whereby the ship agents would upload the relevant information that different agencies would require and we would have a situation whereby Immigration, Customs, Health, Agriculture, Maritime, as necessary, and SCASPA would all be granting the relevant approval following the review of the electronic documentation that applies to that entity,” Ms. Stewart added.

She noted that the Port Community System is important especially in a COVID-19 world as it will eliminate persons having to move around from facility to facility to get approval, thus eliminating physical interaction.
