Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 24, 2021 (SKNIS): The Team Unity Cabinet of Ministers met on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris. The Cabinet was updated on several issues related to health, tourism, security and the economy on a whole.  

  • The team from the National COVID-19 Task Force updated the Cabinet on the COVID-19 situation within the Federation, and discussion ensued regarding the measures, which should be employed to curb community spread. The Cabinet was also updated on the situation within the school system as infections were impacting school operations. The vaccine distribution among children of school age was also discussed and in all deliberations, Cabinet agreed to be guided by the science and the experts in the field. Additionally, Cabinet discussed concerns about compliance with and adherence to the COVID-19 non-pharmaceutical protocols. Cabinet expressed the hope that citizens and residents will act responsibly in protecting themselves and others.
  • Cabinet was informed on the post-mortem in relation to the arrival of the first cruise ship to Port Zante, the Celebrity Equinox, after an 18-month hiatus. The Cabinet was told that the day went reasonably well and procedures were mainly adequate. Also, the steps that could be taken to improve the experiences for both local stakeholders and visitors were discussed.  
  • Cabinet approved submissions which would improve the fiscal performance of the government and also provide employment to citizens in the medium to long term.
