In 2021, the UWI played an important role in the organization of the CARICOM-Africa Summit. As such, they will be essential in the conceptualization of the next steps that will further and strengthen the relationship between Africa and its 6th region.  With their support, the dialogues will serve as a platform for thought leadership on the organization of the Africa and African diaspora international summit in Africa.

The inter-regional dialogue will take place in person and would be considered a major event in the 2022 annual calendar of the International Decade for People of African Descent, aligned with commitments made by governments at the ICPD25, Nairobi Summit as well as build support for the newly established Permanent Forum for People of African Descent.

Some of the topics on the agenda for the dialogues include Achievements, Challenges, Best Practices and Barriers for the Advancement of the Decade’s Objectives; Breaking Barriers Towards Recognition, Justice and Development; UN International Decade for People of African Descent: Achievements, Challenges, and Best Practices; Sustainable Advocacy, Momentum, and Investment for UN International Decade for People of African Descent and Beyond; and The Roadmap to the Africa—African Diaspora International Summit 2022.

Opening and closing remarks will be given by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of the UWI and Mr. Harold Davis, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Region, UNFPA. The keynote address will be presented by Hon. Mia Mottley, Q.C., M.P, Prime Minister of Barbados.

Mr. Craig Tuckett is a graduate of the UWI and former President of St. Kitts and Nevis University of the West Indies Alumni Association for six years. As a Representative of the UWI Global Alumni, Mr. Tuckett represents over 350,000 alumni worldwide.
