Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 28, 2022 (SKNIS): The Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Project Manager for the Capacity Building Project for the Prevention and Control of Metabolic Chronic Disease, William Chen, urged people to cease smoking, and if they must drink, drink in moderation.

He said this during the popular radio and television show ‘Working for You’ on July 28 where he explained the importance of preventing and controlling chronic metabolic diseases.

While discussing the effects of alcohol on the body, Mr. Chen said, “Alcohol is energy and that energy is more than the carbohydrates and once you drink in excess of alcohol, it brings up your energy making your sugar levels high as well. We do not recommend that you drink but if you must, drink moderately and control it.”

In commenting on the positive benefits of alcohol on the body, Mr. Chen said, “Some studies say that in red wine, there are some kinds of phytochemicals that are good for the body’s health, but for me, alcohol should be drunk in moderation.”

“We recommend that for men, they can have two glasses of red wine a day but for women, only one glass of red wine a day is recommended,” said Mr. Chen.

He said that the person who does not drink or smoke at all has less risk to their health.

“I will say do not smoke at all because the chemicals in tobacco stay in your body and will not be removed from your body so I would say cease smoking,” Mr. Chen said.
