Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 23, 2022 (SKNIS): The education landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis was highlighted by Prime Minister the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew when he addressed the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for the first time on the evening of Friday, September 23, 2022.

”I am happy to report that our government has committed to entering a new pact, a new deal on education as it were, that will reform, transform and reinvigorate our education system based on equality, access and inclusion,”  said Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew. “In fact, just a few weeks ago our government made a decision to introduce free tertiary education to ensure that all people can have equal access regardless of their socio-economic status.”

Prime Minister Dr. Drew also highlighted other goals for education reforms which include but are not limited to “incorporating STE(A)M specialist spaces in all schools, reintroducing the I-literacy One to One Laptop Programme, as well as strengthening technical and vocational education by providing alternative programming and scholarships.”

Dr. Drew said that the government of St. Kitts and Nevis will continue to work in the best interest of the people, adding that education is a top priority.

“We continue to invest in social empowerment programmes in order to build resilience in our people and our economy. One such area is education which is one of society’s greatest equalizers,” said Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew. “St. Kitts and Nevis reaffirms that access to quality education is a human right and a foundation of sustainable development of thriving societies.”

Equally important, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Prime Minister Dr. Drew engaged in a high level forum at the 77th UNGA where he presented at the Aspire Artemis Foundation (AAF) meeting which focused on the value of STE(A)M..

The Aspire Artemis Foundation is an organization committed to promoting cultural exchange, language learning and holistic educational training opportunities to youth in vulnerable and marginalized communities globally. Aspire Artemis strives to educate, empower, and support youth by tapping into the power of creativity they possess, highlighting the successes of trailblazers and innovators as a means of inspiring future leaders.
