Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 28, 2023 (SKNIS): The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is observing world day for Safety and Health at Work to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.
Minister of Employment and Labour, the Honourable Marsha Henderson, in commemorating the day during her address to the nation on April 28 said safety within the working environment benefits both the employee and the organisation.
She added, “It is imperative that as the working environment evolves with changes in technology, equipment, processes, and policies, we readily adapt,” she said, “We must implement structures and strong safety policies that ensure a safe working environment for all stakeholders.”
In addressing the employers, she said, “The responsibility largely rests on your shoulders to provide a safe working environment for all.”
Minister Henderson said that employees must be equipped with the necessary tools and training to safely discharge their duties.
She said that the environment must be reflective of adherence to safety guidelines.
“Any commitment to safety in the workspace is guaranteed to save lives and must therefore be a number one priority,” she said.
“Compliance and guidance strengthen the pillars of safety in the workplace, and we must adhere to this to ensure that safety is guaranteed,” said Minister Henderson.
