BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 02, 2024 (SKNIS) – The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, was honoured by the City of Philadelphia in the United States of America (USA) with a Citation in recognition of his sterling contribution to the political landscape in the twin island Federation, as well as for his contributions in the field of medicine.

This distinguished honour was bestowed upon Prime Minister Dr. Drew during the 8th Caribbean Emancipation Day Celebration, hosted by the Jamaica Diaspora Northeast in Philadelphia on August 01, 2024.

CONTRIBUTION OPTION TO NEW PENSION PLAN ENSURES EQUITY AND SUSTAINABILITY

The event was highlighted by an evening of liturgical service and a reception celebrating Caribbean Emancipation from British colonial rule within the diaspora. A video presentation by Prime Minister Dr. Drew was a featured part of the evening.

The Citation honouring and recognising Prime Minister Dr. Drew reads:

The Council of the City of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs are pleased and proud to honour and recognise Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Micheal Drew.

WHEREAS Dr. Terrance Micheal Drew is the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Leader of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party. He has been instrumental in shaping the political landscape of the nation through his work with the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and his contributions to the health care sector; and

WHEREAS Dr. Terrance Drew was born and raised on St. Kitts where he developed a passion for public service and medicine from a young age. He attended local schools in St. Kitts, pursuing higher education abroad. Dr. Drew attended the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara where he earned his Doctor of Medicine Degree. He furthered his medical training in the United States specialising in Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center; and

WHEREAS Dr. Drew is a certified and practising physician, specialising in Internal Medicine. His medical career is characterised by his dedication to providing high-quality healthcare to the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. He has worked at various healthcare facilities in St. Kitts offering medical services and engaging in community health initiatives. Dr. Drew has been an advocate for public health improvement focusing on preventative care and the management of chronic disease; and

WHEREAS Dr. Drew’s entry into politics was driven by his commitment to improving the lives of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis through his effective governance and public service. He became an active member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) where he quickly rose through the ranks due to his leadership qualities and dedication. Dr. Drew was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Constituency of St. Christopher Eight, St. Peter’s). His political platform has focused on healthcare, education and social services; and

WHEREAS Following his election Dr. Drew held various ministerial positions where he has worked to implement policies aimed at enhancing the socio-economic development of the country. As a physician and politician, Dr. Drew has championed numerous healthcare initiatives aimed at improving medical infrastructure, access to healthcare services and public health education. He has been a strong advocate for education and youth development, promoting policies that enhance educational opportunities and vocational training of young people. Dr. Drew has supported economic policies aimed at fostering sustainable development, job creation and economic diversification in St. Kitts and Nevis; and

WHEREAS Dr. Terrance Drew is known for his humility and dedication to his community. He balances his demanding political career with his medical practice ensuring that he remains connected to the people he serves. Dr. Terrance Micheal Drew is a distinguished leader whose contribution to medicine and politics have had a significant impact on St. Kitts and Nevis. His commitment to public service and the wellbeing of fellow citizens continues to inspire many in the region.

Therefore, by Virtue of this Citation the Council of the City of Philadelphia and the Mayor’s Commission on African and Caribbean Immigrant Affairs is proud to honour Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Terrance Micheal Drew. We extend to him the sincere respect and admiration of his legislative body.

Prime Minister Dr. Drew expressed his profound gratitude for this recognition.

“I am deeply honoured to receive this Citation from the City of Philadelphia. This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and our unwavering commitment to progress in both the political and medical fields. I am humbled and inspired to continue working towards the betterment of our nation and our region,” stated Dr. Drew.
