The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented every two years to honor the remarkable achievements of individuals who studied in Taiwan as foreign students. Candidates must have completed a degree, or an approved training program recognized by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan to be eligible for nomination for this award.

Nominees should have made significant contributions to their countries and communities in the following categories: Academics, Industry and Commerce, Politics, Humanities and Communication, or Other.

Ambassador Francis and Permanent Secretary Flemming first traveled to Taiwan in 2012 as recipients of Taiwan ICDF Scholarships. From 2012 to 2016, Ambassador Francis pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communication at Ming Chuan University and then completed a Master of Science degree in Global Health and Development at Taipei Medical University from 2016 to 2018.

Permanent Secretary Flemming studied for a Bachelor of Science in Plant Production from the Department of Tropical Agriculture from 2012 to 2016. He then pursued a Master of Science in Fish Health and Disease Diagnosis from 2016 to 2018. Both degrees were awarded by the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology.

A group of Saint Kitts and Nevis’ student cultural ambassadors gave a thrilling opening performance at the ceremony.
