Tokyo, (21st August 2025) – Today, as part of the Official Visit to World EXPO 2025 – Osaka, the Rt. Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs et al paid a courtesy call on His Excellency MIYAJI Takuma, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Based on the rule of law, democracy, development, mutual interests, capacity building and disaster preparedness, the diplomatic relationship has grown in leaps and bounds since its establishment in 1985. Saint Kitts and Nevis has benefitted from support for the Fisheries Sector, Human Resource Capacity Building and the National Emergency Management Agency. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan committed to building on the established cooperation and additional areas of interest for national development.
In response, Foreign Minister Douglas re-iterated his commitment to supporting Japan in the international arena through key votes on Resolutions and for Candidates in key International Organisations. This allows Japan to lend its voice to the issues of Small Island Developing States critical to the Federation’s development.
In addition, Dr. Douglas hailed Japan’s technological prowess. He commended Japan on its pavilion at EXPO 2025 which exhibits a novel concept of re-imagining waste for; inter alia, energy, clean water, biogas, and bioplastics. He wished that more children would be exposed to what Japan is proposing for the future – for their generation.
Finally, both Ministers hailed the success of the decades-old diplomatic relationship between both countries and look forward to a stronger, deeper relationship.
The World EXPO in Osaka coincides with the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between both countries.
