United Nations, New York (18 September 2025) – The Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations in conjunction with the Consulate General of St. Kitts and Nevis in New York welcomed members of the diplomatic and consular corps, as well as nationals and friends of St. Kitts and Nevis, as the country, region, and international community mourns the passing of a distinguished and principled statesman.

H.E. Dr. Mutryce Williams, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Permanent Representative to the UN said, “H.E. Sir Edmund Lawrence, was the embodiment of “Country Above Self.” Throughout his personal and professional life, his unwavering commitment to family, community, and country became the standard for public service. His contribution to national and regional leadership in the sphere of economic empowerment and development stands as a model across the Caribbean.”

Inspired by the expressions of sympathy from UN colleagues and nationals who paid their respects, she remarked, “the former Governor General was a visionary leader, a principled, and a humble man, who believed deeply in dignity, determination, and devotion. These are qualities that build civic cohesion, nurtures education, and inevitably result in moral clarity and service.
