Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 5, 2025 (PMO) – Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, today November 5th, expressed deep pride and gratitude as he officially declared open the newly reconstructed St. Peter’s Island Main Road, a project he described as both personally significant and nationally transformative.
Addressing a large and emotional crowd of residents, community leaders, and students from local schools, Prime Minister Drew reflected on his journey from advocacy to accomplishment. “Today is a proud moment for me. Today, I feel satisfied. Today, I feel vindicated. Today, I feel that all the struggles and stress to get into office, it was all worth it,” he declared to thunderous applause.
Dr. Drew, who was born and raised in St. Peter’s, recalled the years of neglect the community faced when the island’s main road network was upgraded under the previous administration but St. Peter’s was excluded. The Prime Minister emphasized that this development represents more than infrastructure, but that it symbolizes dignity, safety, and inclusion for a community that was once overlooked.

“When the island main roads were rehabilitated under the former administration, they neglected St. Peter’s, they neglected us. I took to the streets right here and I called on the then government to please include St. Peter’s main road in the island network. How could you say there’s no main road that goes to St. Peter’s, the largest area outside of Basseterre?”
He continued, “this road is helping us to build a modern community, a modern St. Peter’s that will be well designated as the great state of St. Peter’s. Before, people used to look down on this area. But I said that had to change, because the development of this area means the development of the whole of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The St. Peter’s Main Road upgrade, executed by the Public Works Department with the support of local contractors, includes widened carriageways, proper drainage, pedestrian sidewalks, road safety lighting, and a new roundabout features designed to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall aesthetic of the area.
According to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, the project forms part of the Government’s broader effort to modernize road networks across the island, ensuring smoother connectivity between communities and facilitating commercial growth.
The St. Peter’s Island Main Road opening marks yet another milestone in the Government’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure transformation, community empowerment, and balanced national development under the Sustainable Island State Agenda.
