Taipei, Taiwan, November 13th, 2025 (PMO) — Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, yesterday, November 13, described the newly formalized Sister City Agreement between Basseterre, the capital of St. Kitts and Nevis, and Taipei City, the capital of the Republic of China (Taiwan), as a significant milestone in the long-standing partnership between both nations, one that deepens cooperation, strengthens people-to-people exchange, and expands opportunities for future generations.

The signing ceremony, held in Taipei, represents a continuation of over four decades of enduring friendship grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and unwavering collaboration. Prime Minister Drew emphasized that this formalization “is both historic and timely,” adding that it acknowledges “the deep and abiding friendship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan), and at the same time, opens new doors of opportunity for our people.”

The Prime Minister noted that the relationship between the Federation and Taiwan has consistently produced developmental gains across key sectors, from healthcare and education to agriculture, community development, and technology. He underscored that the Sister City Agreement elevates this partnership further by encouraging greater cultural exchange, institutional cooperation, and mutual learning between the people of Basseterre and the people of Taipei.

“Taipei City, and the entire Taiwan, represents innovation, resilience, and progress,” Dr. Drew said. “It is home to world-class institutions like the Taipei Veterans General Hospital, which continues to collaborate meaningfully with our health professionals back home.”

He further highlighted that Taipei has become a hub for Kittitian and Nevisian students who benefit immensely from Taiwan’s world-class education system, scholarship programmes, and safe, vibrant environment, and expressed profound appreciation to the government and people of Taiwan for their continued support, generosity, and commitment to the development of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Prime Minister Drew affirmed that Basseterre and Taipei now stand on the threshold of a new chapter, one marked by deeper ties, expanded opportunities, and an unshakeable commitment to advancing the welfare of both peoples through meaningful collaboration.
