Washington D.C., November 18, 2025 – A delegation of eleven students and three teachers from the Dr. Denzil Llewelyn Douglas Secondary School (DLDSS) is currently in Washington, D.C., representing both the school and Saint Kitts and Nevis at the 44th Model General Assembly of the Organization of American States (MOAS) for High Schools, taking place from November 17–19 at OAS Headquarters.

The 2025 MOAS is being held under the theme “Shaping the Future of the Americas: Youth Leadership for Resilience, Innovation, and Sustainable Development.” This year, the DLDSS school carries the distinction as the delegation of the United States of America to the OAS, participating in simulated OAS committees and presenting positions on key hemispheric issues in representation of that OAS Member State. The Opening Ceremony was held on Monday, November 17, after which students began their full Model OAS experience, engaging in debates, delivering statements, and drafting resolutions across multiple OAS bodies.

Students were earlier in the week hosted to a social and educational afternoon at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Washington DC where they were able to interact with the Ambassador, diplomats, and officers. Permanent Representative, Ambassador Jacinth Henry Martin expressed pride in the remarkable preparation, style, and professionalism of the students of the DLDSS stating, “Our students have demonstrated exceptional promise and leadership at the Model OAS. The Embassy proudly supports them and celebrates their achievements as ambassadors of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
As part of their participation, high schools from across the hemisphere are assigned representation of an OAS Member State other than their own country of origin. Students are required to sign a Code of Conduct that upholds the highest standards of professionalism, as well as a dress code that aims to consistently reflect diplomatic norms and expectations.
DLDSS’s participation in this prestigious hemispheric simulation underscores the school’s enduring commitment to fostering global citizenship, promoting diplomatic awareness, and cultivating strong leadership among its students.
