Basseterre, Saint Kitts, December 17, 2025 (SKNIS): Senator, the Honourable Isalean Phillip, has said that the 2026 Budget presented by Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, on December 16, under the overarching theme “Investing in People and Progress,” reflects the vision and commitment of the administration to foster an inclusive and sustainable future for all citizens and residents of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
In her presentation to the Parliament today, December 17, Senator Phillip, the Minister of State within the Ministry of Social Development & Gender Affairs; Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities, underscored that the theme not only captures the essence of the 2026 Budget but also echoes the government’s unwavering dedication to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis since taking office in August 2022.
The 2026 Budget, as described by the prime minister, is one of “optimism, discipline, and compassion.” Senator Phillip expressed full agreement with the prime minister’s sentiments, emphasising that the budgetary outlook offers a bright future, rooted in disciplined decision-making and compassionate policies that prioritise the well-being of citizens, particularly the most vulnerable groups.
“After consulting the numbers, Madam Speaker, and making some comparisons, particularly for the ministries that I am responsible for, I wholeheartedly agree with the prime minister’s description of this budget being a budget of optimism, discipline, and compassion,” said Senator Phillip.
The budgetary outlook is optimistic around realising the Sustainable Island State Agenda,” Minister Phillip said. “It is disciplined around prioritising the right investments at the right times, and it is compassionate in the ways that it centres the people as primary benefactors of this government’s work.”
The 2026 Budget focuses on strengthening key areas that directly impact the people, including social development, gender affairs, youth empowerment, and disability services. These initiatives are not only designed to uplift communities, but also to create lasting, positive change that will contribute to the nation’s long-term prosperity.
