Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 01, 2016, (RSCNPF): An early morning rain shower on Monday (October 31) did not damper the spirits of officers awaiting march off in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Commissioner’s Parade in celebration of the re-introduced “Police Week”.

“Police week 2016” is being celebrated under the theme “Creating a Better Federation Through Enhanced Citizen Safety.”

The parade began promptly at 9.00am and featured officers representing all stations, departments and units of the Police Service. Leaving the Police Training Centre, the parade made its way into Basseterre, turning onto Church Street where a salute was taken by the Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency, Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton. The Governor General was accompanied by the Honourable Ian Liburd, the Minister of National Security (Ag).

School children from a neighbouring school, office workers and persons going about their routine in Basseterre looked on and cheered the parading officers.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Terrance James said, “today’s parade was special, it took me back to my early days in the Police Service. Police Week was a big deal then, and I’m glad it’s back.” He added, “drill is fundamental to the Police Service, the continued mastery of drill reinforces elements of attention to detail,” and he noted, “our officers looked great, and the spectators confirmed it…. today was a great parade.”

When the parade ended at Police Headquarters, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley was quick to recognize the Police Drum Corps. “I want to thank the drum corps, .. these youngsters have provided the “beat” for our last few parades and they are doing an outstanding job” Commissioner Queeley then addressed his officers and said, “I want to thank you for the splendid display on parade this morning,” and added, “I encourage you to continue to enjoy the “Police Week” celebrations, however, I want to you to stay focused as we celebrate and remember we must still provide security to our country.” He then encouraged his officers to participate in the upcoming events in particular the talent show and karaoke and the sporting events.
