Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 04, 2016 (RSCNPF): Police Officers across St. Kitts and Nevis participated in school visits on Tuesday (November 01) to encourage students not to become involved in crime, gangs and other anti-social behavior. The visits were a community policing initiative in support of the “Police Week 2016” celebrations.

Visits were made to several Primary and Secondary Schools on both islands where the officers addressed the morning assembly and other groups of students.

Several of the officers who visited schools, in particular, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley and Superintendent Diane Mills who visited the Charles E. Mills Secondary School, ACP Hughes who visited the fifth form at the Verchilds Secondary School, Police Sergeant Jacobs who visited the St. Pauls Primary School, Police Constable Pearline Tross who visited the Sandy Point Primary School and Police Corporal Charles and Constable Joseph who visited the Elizabeth Pemberton, the VOJN Primary school and the St. James Primary School on Nevis shared that the visits were very well received.

The central theme presented to all schools was one of making good choices, staying away from crime, drugs, gangs and other anti-social behavior. In essence, your future is bright, stay away from crime. The officers also spoke with the students about the history, the role of, and of opportunities available within the Police Service.

Superintendent Mills who spoke at the Charles E. Mills Secondary School said, “the visit was well received, the students and teachers were very receptive to the message we brought and the interaction both during the presentation and after was encouraging.” She added, “continued contacts like these, between Police and schools, and the community at large will make a difference.”

The visits to schools during “Police Week” also reinforced the messages shared by our school liaison officers during their daily and weekly visits throughout the school year.
