Prime Minster Harris briefed the 145 plus attendants on developments in the Federation, including the much-improved relationship between the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration; as well as on what his Team Unity Government has been doing over the past 18 months to grow the economy; to improve the quality and delivery of healthcare and the daily lives of all citizens. The Prime Minister encouraged nationals “to reflect on our Nation’s journey towards Independence from Great Britain on September 19th, 1983 and to stay in touch with developments in the Federation.”

High Commissioner Isaac also congratulated the Leeds Association for an outstanding event; and seizing on the Prime Minister’s remark regarding improving healthcare in the twin-island Federation, High Commissioner Isaac spoke briefly to highlight the work being undertaken by the London-based High Commission in support of Government’s initiative in healthcare.

He also stressed the importance of a balanced diet and exercise in fighting the onset of non-communicable diseases and spoke of Government’s efforts at home to tackle these non-communicable diseases. High Commissioner Isaac also made a flash appeal to attendees at the Ball to support a young national who is currently in the UK undergoing treatment for cancer. Nationals in attendance responded overwhelmingly and the flash appeal raised £635.17, which the High Commissioner collected personally. He thanked nationals for their support and presented the money to the Executives of the Leeds Association to give to the family to defray the thousands of pounds in medical bills.
